    Default Sending money to an inmate question

    When you send money to an inmate on jpay or whatever what percentage does the prison take out?

    20 frickin percent... plus they charge you a good $6 - $10 just to send the money. UGH

    the prison doesn't keep any of the money I send. I guess it depends on the facility. Jpay charges to send it but not too much, and it's cheaper to send more at a time instead of a little bit here and there

    well i know some prisons,if they inmate has fines & restitution than they can take 55% so chec kw/the facility see if it changed or if he has fines

    Wow that sucks I could only afford to give him $30 if they take all that out he isn't left with much. What do they get to buy in there anyway? Like food or tolietries?

    Check with the facility to see how much is taken out. Most states have a canteen/commissary program where an inmate can purchase their personal hygiene items and some food products. They may also have a package program as well. Post this question in the state forum that your loved one is located and you will get a better answer since everything varies from state to state.

    my husband is in Texas and when I send him $100.00 he gets $100.00 on his books
