Care Packages

Hi everyone! Hope everyone is doing well today! I was just wondering if anyone had any information about the care packages we can send to our loved ones. I've been trying to find a list, but to no avail. Do we need to call the unit directly and ask about it?

Texas is not up and running yet. I sent them an email Mon. asking if they'd at least give a heads up where it will be located on the Texas.gov site so we're not all scrolling around all over the place. I also asked if they'd consider writing "new" next to the items that aren't offered in commissary or have a section that lists all new items. I thought that'd be helpful. And, you guessed it, no answer yet - nor was I really expecting one.

Why am I not surprised that you've yet to get an answer and for the list not to be up on the website. I know it's not worth getting upset for the delay, but damn could they show a little bit more remorse. Anywho..thanks for the update/information; I'll be going up this weekend to visit my guy and I'd at least like to let him know what's going on!

Hello! This is my 1st post. My son is @ Lindsey State in Jacksboro Tx. He has asked if I can send him some things... when he was @ county I could send him books through a seller. Is that the way it is in state jail or do I have to get everything through the commissary?

you have to send him books through the Texas Prison bookstore or Amazon and I think Barnes and Noble everything else has to be bought at the commissary

I read somewhere that the new service is to be called eCommdirect and will be thru texas.gov As far as start I believe it is now mid to end of Aug but am not sure if I am remembering right. If I find the post I will put it here.

OK, I found it.

The Texas.gov project has a start up date projected at August 18, 2012. Of
course our original estimates from this group last year had us starting in
March, then June, then September and now we are looking at August. I am
working on getting some information on the TDCJ website to keep everyone in
the loop on where we are with this project. We will initially offer the
top selling (100 or more ) items already in the commissary. As our new
contracts are awarded in September, we will offer new bundled items that
will range from $10-$20 each. I am really guessing on these prices, but
that's what we are shooting for. The new program will be called
eCommDirect that will be a way for friends and family to electronically
make a direct commissary purchase for an inmate. As we get the new
"bundles" or packages available, we will advertise them as new.

Our biggest challenge is rolling this project and not encountering any
show-stopper problems right away. I have been in the department almost
twenty years and have been involved with several technology projects.
There will always be some problems pop up that we had not planned for and
may cause some set backs. I am confident that we will be successful with
this endeavor and will find many opportunities along the way to make it
better.
